Hailstorms Destroy Swathes of Vines in the Côte de Beaune

For the third year in a row, a vicious hailstorm has ravaged the C么te de Beaune, with officials projecting a loss of 50 to 90 percent of the harvest. Winegrowers were hoping for a good harvest this year, as a wet spring and sunny June provided perfect growing conditions.

Doug Lehmann, son of Australian winemaking legend Peter Lehmann and managing director of Peter Lehmann Wines from 1993 until his retirement in 2010, died suddenly over the weekend. The cause of death was a heart attack, according to numerous press reports.

Last week, Christie鈥檚 Wine Department announced the second year of its Signature Cellars New York: The All-American Wine Sale. Coinciding with Independence Day, the wines available include Screaming Eagle, Scarecrow, Harlan, Nickel & Nickel, Bond and Williams Selyem. The online auction is open to all international clients, with sales closing July 8.

West Coast Wine Partners (WCWP), whose California holdings include Valley of the Moon Winery, The Madrone Vineyards Estate, Lake Sonoma Winery and PLUME Napa Valley, has appointed David Marchesi to the role of Director of Winemaking. Formerly of Paraduxx Winery, he will be responsible for all winemaking, cellar and vineyard operations for all existing wineries under the WCWP banner.

Pasternak Wine Imports and Valpolicella鈥檚 Marchesi Fumanelli have announced a new long term distribution agreement for the U.S. market, effective July 1, 2014. 聽Pasternak Wine Imports will be responsible for the marketing and sales of the winery鈥檚 portfolio.
