Terroir Inc., founded in 2009 by Charles and Ali Banks, has appointed Kevin McGee as chief operating officer and general counsel. In his new role, McGee will be in involved in ongoing operations, overseeing all partner relationships, and acting as general counsel and chief legal officer. In the past, McGee worked with Terroir, Inc. on a project basis, involved in strategic development, legal work and managing multiple acquisitions for the company, including Qupé, Trinity Hill, Evening Land, Whetstone and Mayacamas Vineyards.
On Tuesday, October 7, the Primum Familiae Vini (PFV) raised $85,000 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care auction in London. The 11 families that make up the collective—Marchesi Antinori, Château Mouton Rothschild, Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof, Hugel & Fils, Champagne Pol Roger, Famille Perrin, Symington Family, Tenuta San Guido, Torres and Vega-Sicilia—contributed to the PFV lot, a mahogany Collection Case (consisting of one bottle of each member’s flagship wine) and a passport allowing the winning bidder and a guest to visit all PFV member estates for private tastings, tours and lunch. San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co. announced it is seeking to build its first East Coast facility in Richmond, Virginia. Once approved, the company plans to invest $74 million to construct a production brewery, packaging hall, destination restaurant, retail store and administrative offices, employing more than 280 people. Planned in phases, the brewery is expected to be operational in late 2015 or early 2016, with Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens opening a year or two after that.

Brotherhood Winery, in Washingtonville, New York, celebrated its 175th year of existence by throwing a party for approximately 220 invited guests last week. Founded in 1839 and located about 50 miles north of New York City, Brotherhood bills itself as “America’s Oldest Winery,” making wine from grapes purchased across New York State.
