11 Beaujolais Nouveaus for Thanksgiving

This year’s offerings of the cheerful, bright red are ready to drink.

It’s nouveau time. On Wednesday, November 19, 2014, more than one million bottles of 2014 Beaujolais Nouveau flooded stores in the United States—just in time for Turkey Day.

The purple-hued, 100% Gamay bottlings hail from the namesake region south of Burgundy, and they positively scream Thanksgiving. They’re fruit-forward, lightweight and deliciously easy to drink. They’ve been prized dinner-table pours since leading Beaujolais producer Georges Duboeuf first sent the French wines stateside 39 years ago.

But how good is the 2014 vintage? While it’s not an excellent vinous experience, it’s good wine and a great excuse to celebrate the labor of vineyard workers and winemakers at the end of harvest.

Give thanks at the dinner table with these 11 bottlings, best served lightly chilled.
