Appointments and Promotions

New York: International Wine Center (IWC) says its longtime school Director Linda Lawry, DWS, CWE, is retiring on May 31, 2018. Lawry joined IWC in 1985 as its special events director and moved into her current position in 2000.

Under her tenure, more than 300 students earned the rigorous WSET Diploma. She was the primary instructor for the Wine and Spirits Education Trust Level 3 course, and lecturer for the WSET Level 4 Diploma.

Lawry will continue to teach at IWC. A replacement has not been named.

St. Helena, CA: Joseph Phelps Vineyards named Clarice Turner president on Thursday, May 24, 2018. She founded the strategic advisory firm, Carneros Associates, and has served as a senior management executive of best-in-class companies in the food and beverage industry.

Turner will remain an advisory board director for Delicato Family Vineyards and for Women of the Vine & Spirits. She will continue serving on the Culinary Institute of America Society of Fellows, and as an Emeritus board director for the National Restaurant Association.

She succeeds Robert Boyd, who went to Heitz Cellar.

Victor, NY: Constellation Brands, Inc. has promoted Jim Sabia to the newly created role of executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Sabia, who joined the company in 2007, will serve as the marketing lead for the company’s Beer and Wine & Spirits Divisions.

Constellation Brands also said its Fine Wine division, TRU Estates and Vineyards, has formed a strategic partnership with Champagne Palmer & Co. Founded in 1947, Palmer is best known for its Brut Reserve, Rosé Reserve, Blanc de Blancs and Vintage offerings.

The long-term agreement starts in July.

Miami/Dallas: Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the largest North American wine-and-spirits distribution company, said it expanded its relationship with Jackson Family Wines. Southern Glazer’s will now distribute Jackson Family Wines in 13 U.S. markets. The family’s portfolio comprises more than 40 brands.
