The Wines of Southwest France Council is pleased to invite you to (re)discover and understand the unique variety of wines from the region during a virtual discussion panel moderated by Jeff Harding, Beverage Director, Waverly Inn & Garden.
With the participation of Fabien Olaiz, Area Sales Director at Plaimont, Vincent Thébaud, USA Representative at Vignobles Brumont and Domaine du Moulin, and André Compeyre, Sommelier at Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, let’s travel through the region and discuss the wines of character that reflect the richness of the region and its people.
Why You Should Attend: Southwest France is known to be the cradle of some of the world’s most popular varietals, making the region the parent of a large, global family of grape varieties. We invite you to discover the strong cultural roots and rich history particular to the region, the identity that informs the richness and diversity of its winemaking today.
What Attendees Will Learn: The panel discussion will cover the well-known appellations distributed in the US and bring to light the lesser-known appellations yet to be discovered. It will provide detailed insight about the region’s heritage, its wines of character, climatic resilience, and winemakers expertise showing exactly what makes this region the birthplace of world-famous grape varieties and indigenous grape varieties that cannot be found anywhere else.

Jeff Harding has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years as a server and bartender, and now as a sommelier. After a spent a summer in France managing a château, where he developed a passion for wine, he returned to New York to focused his career on wine, and is now the wine director at the Waverly Inn. 25 years experience in the Wine & Spirits Industry from which half of them selling Plaimont wines in all parts of the world. Fabien spent many years exploring European markets for Plaimont before becoming Export Director for the largest private vineyard owner in Ribera del Duero : Pradorey. After that, he joined and opened up the America’s Rep office for Camus Cognac in Panama where he run the sales team for 6 years.
He started his career in 1997 as a trainee for a small family owned importer in Mexico where he understood the basics of this job by doing cold calls to private and corporate customers around the country. Plaimont, and the vision of its legendary founder André Dubosc have always remained his guideline in the industry to this day. One of his current challenges is to help this unique winery to grow its presence in the US market to similar standards of sales and prestige as on its key European markets.

Vincent Thébaud was born on May 30, 1975 in Nantes. Vincent holds a Master’s degree in Agriculture Engineering from Angers and is also graduated from the Essec Business School in Paris. After two years of business development in the Bakery and Pastry Industry in Italy, he joined the wine business in 2001.
Having worked in the Wine & Spirits industry since then, Vincent spent most of his career with the Moët-Hennessy Group in France (Cognac, Epernay), Brazil and Canada. Upon his return to France, he worked in Burgundy for three years before making the move to the Southwest of France. Today, Vincent continues to share his passion for wine and gastronomy through his work as a sales representative for South-Western estates in North America.

Native from Toulouse, the capital of the Wines of Southwest, André moved to New York over 25 years ago. Currently the Chef Sommelier at Aldo Sohm Wine Bar, running the daily operations since 2017, the journey allowed him to work with famous Chefs from Fine Dining to more cajole settings.
Proud defender of his roots, he teaches classes for the American Sommelier Association and is the Official Ambassadeur of the Wines of South-West France.
