From a young block, recently replanted, this spent 22 months in 40% new American oak. Those barrel flavors and a touch of leather spring out first, though the cherry-berry fruit flavors scamper to keep up, helped by the addition of 10% Grenache and 5% Merlot. The wine is balanced overall, with proportionate acidity and ripe tannins, but should drink best starting in the early 2020s. Paul Gregutt
