Abacela 2017 Syrah (Umpqua Valley)

This is tannic to be sure, but very expressive of the particular characteristics of the grape. It's packed with purple and black berry fruits, along with a seam of cola and a broad foundation of clean moist earth. The mix of fruit, acidity, tannins and savory earth is well-balanced, though the finer details found in some top-tier southern Oregon Syrahs are muted. Paul Gregutt
