Abacela 2017 Tannat (Umpqua Valley)

Tannat's usual aggressive tannins have been tamed in this lighter vintage, though its jet black color might indicate otherwise. The blueberry fruit has a citrusy tang, and though the wine was aged for 21 months in barrel, it's not barrel toast or spices that dominate, rather the overall smoothness from the extended, slow oxidation.
