As a wine reviewer, I have a love-hate relationship with Achaval Ferrer's wines. I love the owners' commitment to vineyard-designated wines and harvesting early to thwart overripeness. On the other hand, wines like this seem clangy, sharp and roasted on the nose, while richness and depth of flavor seem to be lacking. The end result is a hollow wine that works best on the surfaces.
