Yes, this pale neon-green liqueur is distilled from Bolivian coca leaves. But sorry, thrill seekers, the “negative narcotic compounds” are removed before the distillate is blended with 36 other herbs. The end result is a faint anise and grassy scent, and light flavors of anise, ginger, kiwi fruit and lychee, with a soft lemongrass and white-pepper spiciness. Consider subbing for green Chartreuse in cocktails. Kara Newman

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
