A full-bodied and flavorful selection, this is a vintage-dated beer that's an ideal candidate for cellaring. The rich, grainy core is loaded with sweet notes of caramel malt, toffee, Honeycomb cereal and molasses, but it's balanced by assertive, resiny hop bitterness and a lingering astringency on the finish. Potent and smooth, with a creamy, mouthfilling texture, the intense profile will mellow and harmonize with time; hold this beauty until 2016. Lauren Buzzeo

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
