Alpha Box & Dice 2017 Apostle Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

This Shiraz is blended with 7% of Durif, a k a Petite Sirah. The nose is aromatic, if a little synthetic and tired, lacking vibrancy and freshness. It smells like potpourri that's been sitting out for too long, and the oak influence feels soapy. The palate is lean with taut tannins and a slightly sour finish, lacking in harmony. Apostle can't be faulted for a lack of personality. The question is whether this particular one appeals. Christina Pickard
