Alpha Box & Dice 2019 Tarot Grenache (McLaren Vale)

A stalky streak of whole bunch is what first stands out on this wine, along with an odd burnt oatmeal aroma, like the bottom of the porridge pot. There're also notes of clove, licorice and damp earth alongside a good deal of bright red fruit. The palate is equally raw and pointy elbowed, but the lack of polish will appeal to some. There's a tight rein of tannins juxtaposing the juicy red fruit and a spicy finish. Christina Pickard
