Alta Colina 2010 Toasted Slope Estate Syrah (Paso Robles)

This is the winery's least expensive Syrah, but it's also just about their best. Despite high alcohol, it doesn't feel hot, offering a warm, glycerine richness to complex layers of blackberries, blueberries, mocha, grilled meat, black pepper and new oak. It's hard to see it aging well, but it's a delicious, dramatic Syrah to drink now.
