Alto de la Ballena 2014 Tannat-Merlot-Cabernet Franc Red (Maldonado)

Best Buy

Aromas of tobacco, vanilla, dried cherry and plum suggest a nice Rioja reserva, although this is from Uruguay and it consists of Tannat, Merlot and Cab Franc. On the palate, this is forward and a touch blocky. Flavors of oak and coffee frame earthy plum and cassis, while this hollows out on a finish with mild heat. Michael Schachner
