Andrew Murray 1999 Roasted Slope Vineyard Syrah (Santa Ynez Valley)

Smoky, slightly herbaceous notes over raspberry and cherry fruit give this California wine a decidedly Rhônish cast. The mouthfeel is lean and structured, the tart flavors are strawberry and rhubarb. Finishes with drying tannins. A hard, angular wine that needs time to come around.
