Hearty, rustic aromas of dark berries, roasted meats, scorched earth and dried carnations make for a complex nose on this bottling. The boysenberry and smoked meat flavors would complement a wide range of grilled foods. The wine stays fresh for days, and would age well, but this ambitious project to return Los Angeles to its winemaking roots deserves immediate attention. Matt Kettmann
