Right off the bat, this Carmenère is a challenge. The nose is surprisingly raw and loud, with pounding aromas of tomato sauce, oak grain and green herbs. Following that, the palate is full but plodding, with choppiness. Saucy and tart plum and cranberry flavors are bolstered by minty green notes that carry over to a demanding finish with latent acidity and lots of oak. Michael Schachner
