Artesa 1998 Merlot (Napa Valley)

If you've made up your mind about the '98 vintage, you'll be surprised by this ripe, complex wine, which offers enormously beautiful palate impressions. It just proves how some wineries can succeed even when the vintage is questionable. Ripe blackberries stand alongside earthy mushroom flavors, and the dry, plush tannins are a treat.
