86pointsAstrolabe 2016 Taihoa Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

This is a wine that has been worked. A lot. It was whole bunch pressed, barrel fermented wild on solids and with lees stirring. And while walking the less trodden path is always admirable, in this instance it delivers an odd, mealy wine that's honeyed and heavy with notes of waxy lemons and limes, pineapples, guavas and green peppers. Things pick up more on the palate. It's tangy, and textural with zingy acidity and bright fruit, although that mealiness is present here, too. Christina Pickard
