This wine already seems mature. The color is fading and the aromas are dusty and raisiny. All in all it seems a bit ungenerous for a '97. The tannins are kind of starching and it lacks lushness. With all that said, if offers ample cherry, spice and plenty of tannic fodder for rich foods like osso buco or lamb shanks.
