Balboa 2006 Red (Walla Walla Valley (WA))

This is a sharp, tasty, bright and spicy young red wine, still not entirely knit together. It opens with peppery spice, citrus skin and very tart cranberry fruit, then fills out with chewy tannins and more flavors inflected with leaf and stem. It's got decent length and a structure that seems set up for short-term cellaring. Paul Gregutt
