Barnard Griffin 2006 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

This is a good baseline Merlot, blended with small amounts of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Once again the wine opens with a very pretty nose, scented with pipe tobacco and cherry. Those flavors move into a satisfying middle, with nothing vegetal or even too herbal, but the black cherry fruit is joined by dried leaves and black olive complexities. Paul Gregutt
