Bertrand Bespoke 2019 Syrah (Heathcote)

Editors' Choice

This is the label of the French-born-and-trained winemaker Gilles Lapalus, today a highly regarded producer in Victoria. The Syrah is from the Heathcote region, known for its red clay soils and distinctive Shiraz. Lapalus's version, appropriately labeled “Syrah,” is made in the vin de soif style, meaning it can be chilled down and drunk by the bucketload. Part whole-bunch fermented, it's bright and bouncy, with stalky, red berry and floral notes and crunch to the light-weight palate. Christina Pickard
