Blackbilly 2016 Single Vineyard Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

This is a beast of a wine, but you wouldn't know it on the nose, which starts muted and opens after swirling in glass. Aromas of raspberry, plum, clove, vanilla and sweet oak spice are there, if quietly. The palate is tightly wound, with woody tannins and juicy berry fruit. Lovers of huge reds might be able to get behind this provided a decanter and protein are at hand. Christina Pickard
