Bodega Norton 1999 Merlot (Mendoza)

Best Buy

The bouquet is kind of flat and mute; what does emerge is mostly bubble gum and far-off bramble. The palate is better, as it offers some cassis, earthy mushroom, and also a little bit of green bell pepper. The warm, moderately tannic finish is solid, but the wine isn't terribly rich or structured. It has a candied personality, which fans of sweeter wines should like. Michael Schachner
