Borgo Salcetino 1998 Lucarello Riserva (Chianti)

You had better be prepared for a blast of aromatic oak or this will disappoint. It's very woody, so much so that it smells of popcorn. Beneath the heavy veneer of wood is an intense, berry-packed palate. As might be expected, the finish is all vanilla and burnt nuts. Over time the stomping oak should calm down some, but probably never enough to become fully integrated. —M.S. Michael Schachner
