The nose is charred and mildly funky. Even with time to air out it's still very oaky. The palate, meanwhile, is a bit bland despite the fact that it's packed with the flavor of wild berries. The finish is drying due to heavy tannins, and while it delivers a punch, there aren't any of the balancing nuances that could potentially make it more pleasing. —M.S.
