Boscarelli 1999 Rosso Sangiovese (Toscana)

Intensely aromatic, this wine boasts strong hints of leather, smoke and herbs. The palate is extremely tight and tannic, with cherry, raspberry and smoked-meat flavors. Talk about a full and tannic finish; this has that and more as it almost seems to be bearing teeth. This muscular red surely needs some cellar time. Revisit it in about three years. —M.S.
