Tight when first opened, with polished fruit flavors of blackberry and cassis, mingling with barrel accents of anise and clove. The alcohol, listed at 13.5%, does not indicate the weight and power of the wine. One caveat—there is a chalky aftertaste from the combination of very dry tannins and citrusy acids. Paul Gregutt
