Burchino 1999 Genius Loci Sangiovese (Toscana)

The charred aromas are much like sniffing a match stick. That same piercing woodiness rides high on the palate along with cherries, berries and licorice. The finish is plowed over with buttery oak—you can taste it clear as day. The texture, meanwhile, is firm and not easily penetrable. —M.S. Michael Schachner
