Calabria Family Wines 2014 The Iconic Grand Reserve Shiraz (Barossa Valley)

From 100-year-old vines revived by the Calabria family themselves, this is a broody, robust red that needs time in the cellar. Ripe plum and dark berry, dark chocolate, pepper and plenty of charred oak dominate the nose. The palate dials the richness up another notch, coating the tongue like a wool blanket with more plush fruit and toasty, chewy oak. This is a beast of a wine at the moment and needs a few more years to settle. Drink 2020–2038. Christina Pickard
