From vines growing at 2,200 feet that yielded less than one ton per acre, this bottling shows the typically feral aromas of dried bay and sagebrush that come from this terroir, yet there is also spicy star anise and fresh strawberry and cherry on the nose. The grip is pleasantly rugged on the palate, where mountain herb, black-raspberry and cranberry flavors ride a bright acidity. Matt Kettmann
