91pointsCarlisle 2016 Two Acres Red (Russian River Valley)

From a site planted in 1910, and after the producer had to skip the 2015 vintage, this is a fine return to form, a perfumed, earthy and uniquely exotic blend of 80% Mourvèdre and 20% mixed blacks, including Syrah and Petite Sirah. Thick and concentrated in cherry cola and cinnamon, it finds a way to exhibit black pepper and meat as well. Virginie Boone
