Castello di Fonterutoli 2017 Vicoregio (Chianti Classico)

This has a rather subdued nose that eventually reveals suggestions of toasted oak, blue flowers and menthol. The lean, tightly wound palate is quite austere, recalling pomegranate, orange zest, roasted coffee bean and the barest hint of star anise set against assertive, close-grained tannins. Give the tannins a few years to unwind, then drink sooner rather than later. Kerin O’Keefe
