Castello di Meleto 2009 Castello di Meleto (Chianti)

Aromas of oak, toasted notes, espresso and a whiff of plum lead the nose on this barrique-aged blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah. Oak extract dominates the palate along with vanilla and coffee. Black cherry can be detected in the background, but there's not enough fruit richness to support the aggressive oak. Astringent wood tannins give this a bitter, drying finish. Kerin O’Keefe
