Blended solera-style with material that goes back to World War I, this is heady and rich but never cloying. It opens with aromas of figs, milk chocolate, coffee beans and an earthy underbelly. The palate is luscious, cloaking the tongue in a satiny blanket until the acidity creeps in towards the end. It is a beautifully indulgent sticky, as the Aussie say, to sip fireside on a cold winter's night with a dried fruit-studded dessert. Christina Pickard
