Château Bizard 2015 1862 Syrah (Grignan-les-Adhémar)

This is a big, red-blooded varietal Syrah sourced from limestone and marl soils in the village of Grignan-les-Adhémar. Matured in new French oak, its ripe, sultry cassis and blueberry flavors are shrouded by prominent veins of char, smoke, vanilla and tobacco. Tasted in July of 2021, it's still quite fresh in both fruit and oak accent and likely to meld better from 2023–2026. Anna Lee C. Iijima
