Château de Campuget 2001 Red (Costières de Nîmes)

Best Buy

Throwing a healthy sediment already, this blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre could actually use another six months or so to drop additional tannin. It's an unusually forceful vintage for this wine, which is usually friendly and forward. Although in many years it tends toward red fruit flavors, the 2001 is graced with black cherry fruit and complex notes of tree bark, earth and pepper. Joe Czerwinski
