Château de Ségriès 2017 Clos Jean Alesi Red (Côtes du Rhône)
In this wine, smoky veins of clove and charred vanilla bean accent black-cherry preserves and plum compote. A blend of equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in concrete vats and matured just nine months in 5% new oak, it maintains a keen balance between hedonistic black fruit and charry spice tones. Opulent in mouthfeel and baby soft in tannins, it's an immediately approachable wine that should hold through 2025. Anna Lee C. Iijima
