Château d'Or et de Gueules 2016 Trassegum Red (Costières de Nîmes)

Whiffs of sun-scorched garrigue and leather accent blackberry and cassis in this smoky blend of Syrah (50%) augmented by equal proportions of Carignan and Mourvèdre sourced from 80-year-old vines. Moderately full bodied and elegantly shaded by inflections of clay and salt, it's a subtle, slightly savory wine that should drink at peak through 2025. Certified organic. Anna Lee C. Iijima
