Château La Nerthe 2016 Les Clavelles Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

Cellar Selection

White pepper and sandalwood linger from nose to finish in this satiny, subtle expression of 100% Grenache sourced from 85-year-old vines in a single vineyard site. Despite 12 months maturation in new French oak, its blackberry and preserved strawberry flavors are pure and sonorous, edged by layers of chalk, ash and salty minerality as well as very fine, softly gripping tannins. Stunning in youth but likely to improve through 2030 and hold much longer still. Anna Lee C. Iijima
