Plump black cherry, blackberry and black plum give this Merlot an almost candy-like, syrupy quality—even on the nose. The mouthfeel is just as plump and juicy-jammy as the aromas suggest. The palate brings forth further notes of black currant, currant leaf, black pepper, fresh-cut cedar and a lingering note of oversteeped tea tannin. There's heat from the alcohol, but just enough acidity to maintain balance. Stacy Briscoe
