This traditional bottling opens with a deep well of rich, winter warming aromas: cassis, plum, chocolate, bay, eucalyptus, graphite, and peppery spices. The palate is rich and muscular but with restraint and a tang of fruit that offers much needed freshness. Tannins are broad-shouldered and dusty with myriad spices. Drink now with rare steak or roast mushrooms, or cellar until 2035, at least. Christina Pickard
