Château Val Joanis 2017 Les Griottes Red (Luberon)

Ripe but restrained blackberry and cassis are edged by caramelized sugar, sweet-spice and hazelnut in this full-bodied, Syrah-dominant blend. It's richer and darker in fruit than the producer's zippy entry-level Luberon, with more pronounced oak accents of chocolate, smoke and earth. Best now–2027. Anna Lee C. Iijima
