Chehalem 2006 Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

Tasted a few months prior to release, this wine had not completely knit together, though many excellent pieces are already in place. The fruit is ripe and precise, with sharply defined, tart raspberry flavors. Burgundian whiffs of bark and earth add to the complexity. The vanilla and butter cookie barrel accents are still unintegrated, perhaps because the blending occurred rather recently. Paul Gregutt
