Cigale 2005 Grenache-Mourvèdre-Shiraz Red (Barossa Valley)

Editors' Choice

This is an attractive Rhône-style blend of 40% Grenache, 32% Mourvèdre and 28% Shiraz, showing facets of each variety. There's a bit of cola or chocolate from the Mourvèdre, blackberry and spice from the Shiraz and superripe stone fruit from the Grenache, which also contributes a lovely textural component. This is intense without being weighty or heavy, lingering elegantly on the finish. Joe Czerwinski
