Very subtle blackberry notes on the nose preface deeper, more tannic blackberry flavors—plus some charred barrel and metallic notes—on the palate. Full and dry in the mouth with a tannic, gravelly texture; the Bridgehead's finish is equally dry and tannic, with green herb and black pepper flavors at the end. It's dark and dry, but boy, does that finish go on and on. It would go well with a thick, medium-rare marbled steak. May soften in a year or two. —D.M.
