Clos de la Tech 2004 Domaine du Docteur Rodgers Pinot Noir (San Francisco Bay)

There are strong aromas of turned earth, wet loam, bay leaf, tobacco leaves and black olive tapenade on the nose of this recent library release from the winery that sits atop the Santa Cruz Mountains above Silicon Valley. It's thick on the palate with Indian and Mexican spices (from coriander to curry), with hints of powdered cocoa and tobacco as well. The acid and structure remain solid. Matt Kettmann
