Cloudy Bay 2016 Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

This vintage of Cloudy Bay's barrel fermented and aged Sauvignon is a ripe and somewhat odd one. It opens with rich, heady aromas of candied pineapple, honey, lychee and buttered cooked beans. Acidity on the palate finds a lovely interplay with the chalky texture, and the fruit retains its vibrancy, but there's a sulfuric burn on the finish, rounding out a wine that will be divisive to say the least.
